Update: Like technology, things change rapidly around here! Since moving my studio and gallery to ArtLofts in Beaufort SC, I’ve had many complementary agendas, and not enough time for all of them. Technology has saved me, once again, though. My email list lets me get the word out fast about the move. My blog keeps you current on what I’m painting. I also set up blogs that act as dynamic websites for other artists and galleries. Plus I’m always looking for new marketing ideas that can use technology as a time and money-saver. Just think how much it used to cost when you had to mail all your announcements, or make those long-distance calls. Technology has given us our money’s worth, at least it has for me.
—————————————–
This is a new page for discussing how technology impacts the works and life of artists. I’ll be talking about things that make life easier for artists, as well as others that distract from painting and creating on the canvas or paper. And I’ll be asking you what you love and what you hate about technology, how you work with it, and when you hire someone to help. Also I want to discuss new gadgets and processes in photography, communication, and creation that excite you.
All of our actions from first idea, through final brush stroke, photos and sales activities are creative acts. I remind myself of this when I’m looking at a slide show of 10 years of work on YouTube, and wish I’d taken the time to upload the display version rather than the mobile version. I also get a bit frustrated with PhotoShop Elements, and find myself using iPhoto when I’m on the MAC side of my computer, and Picassa when I’m on the Windows side. I know, Picassa is on MAC, too. Now that I have a MacBook AIR, I’ve started to learn Aperture for photo editing. Will probably try LightRoom, too.
Stay tuned for more on Artists and Technology. Eventually we’ll have our own blog at www.artistsandtechnology.com . But for now, it will point here while we’re incubating.
Best,
Susie
Hi Susie,
Fun looking through your site… and blog. You are a dedicated professional.
I’m trying to organize for the plein air trip to Italy next May and am wondering if you are still interested. If so contact Rob Cushman, the chief host and bottle washer, soon at rob@cushmanhhi.com and let me also know of your intentions.
Thanks a bunch.
